Now Soliciting 2012 MSCGP National Conservation Needs

It's NCN time! The Association is now soliciting National Conservation Needs (NCNs) for the 2012 Multistate Conservation Grant Program (MSCGP). NCNs are the foundation of the MSCGP and establish the states’ priorities for the grant cycle. Each AFWA committee is allowed to submit one NCN. Chairs and Vice Chairs are asked to distribute a request to their committee(s) as appropriate. NCNs are due by February 11, 2011. Committees are encouraged to work together and submit joint NCNs.

Before submitting a new NCN, review the selected NCNs for the 2011 MSCGP since these NCNs may still be of highest importance and priority. Typically, if a committee is considering more than one NCN, the Chair will ask committee members to vote and/or the Chair makes the final selection. It may be appropriate to refer NCNs to other committees or regional associations for their consideration.

All proposed NCNs from committees and the regional associations will be evaluated by the National Grants Committee, which will select NCNs to recommend for state directors’ approval at the March 2011 North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference. Letters of Intent will be solicited beginning in April to address the NCNs.

17 Letters of Intent Selected!

Over the past month Association subject committees have worked diligently to review 72 submitted Letters of Intent (LOIs) and provide feedback to our National Grants Committee (NGC). Consequently, the NGC met on Monday to select Letters of Intent and invite full proposals for Multistate funding consideration in FY 2011; of the 72 LOIs reviewed only 17 were selected.

Successful applicants are being asked to submit their full proposal by Noon eastern on Friday, August 13th. At this time the NGC will review the Full Proposals and projects will be recommended to the USFWS for funding at the Association’s Annual Meeting in September.

The necessary guidelines for submitting a full proposal can be found on the MSCGP page of AFWA's web site and the required federal forms can be found in the USFWS WSFR tool kit at:

Thank you to all who applied!
